Am 25. September 2009 hat die galerie davide gallo das Vergnügen die erste Ausstellung des indischen Künstlers Basist Kumar vorzustellen. Geboren in Delhi im Jahre 1984 absolviert Basist Kumar gerade ein Master in der Universität in Santiniketan.
In seiner neuesten Produktion beschäftigt sich der Künstler mit dem Thema des Individuums im Bezug auf eine Gesellschaft, die -wie im heutigen Indien- sich in dynamischer Expansion befindet . Dem Phänomen der Urbanisierung, der Megalopolisierung, gilt sein Interesse. Ausgehend von der persönlichen Erfahrung, wie Raum und Architektur wahrgenommen und erlebt werden können, die Leinwand als kognitives Instrument für die Erforschung des Raumes benutzend, analysiert Basist Kumar den Zustand des zeitgenössischen Menschens in der Megalopolis, wo deren Bewohner (über-) leben. Der Einzelne ist bei Basist Kumar stets alleine. ... er bezieht seine Kraft nicht aus der Gemeinschaft sondern vielmehr aus sich selbst, in seiner persönlichen Beziehung zu der Megalopolis.
Der Einzelne geht als Gewinner aus diesem Kampf hervor, ein Riese der in der Lage ist die Geographie herauszufordern, die städtische Umwelt neu zu gestalten so wie er es bereits -früher- mit der natürlichen Umwelt getan hatte. In früheren Arbeiten hatte der Künstler die individuelle Identität von berühmten Menschen unserer Zeit erzählt und zelebriert, Helden der Medien wie der Tänzer "Nijinsky" oder "Ravi Shankar". Die Mythologie seiner nationalen Kultur haben Basist Kumar Bilder des Zyklus "Untitled" inspiriert. Jetzt ist der urbane Mensch, das Individuum in der Megalopolis das Subjekt seiner Erzählung. Es ist ein Individuum, das im Zusammenhang mit der Stadt die Größe eines Helden bekommt. Was auch in dieser letzten Produktion von Basist Kumar beeindruckt ist die Fähigkeit des Künstlers eine Oberfläche zu gestalten, in der das Bild dynamisch zu fliessen scheint. Das Bild zeigt in der Tat keine Zweideutigkeiten, sein Inhalt wird sofort gesehen, die Wahrnehmung der Arbeit ist absichtlich knapp.
Aus stilistischer Sicht schaut der Künstler auf die Produktion der großen Meistern der zeitgenössischen indischen Szene auch auf die "Väter" der ersten europäischen Avantgarde.
Der Surrealismus, vor allem aber die italienische Metaphysik, haben zur Architektur der Werke von Basist Kumar beigetragen.
Die absoluten Räume, die Verwendung von Symbolen (nie übertrieben), geben diesen Bildern etwas Zweideutiges, ein Rätsel, der seit jeher der Inbegriff eines Kunstwerksn ist.
Die Ausstellung wird bis zum 15. November in der galerie davide gallo, Dienstag bis Samstag von 14 bis 18 oder nach Vereinbarung, zu sehen sein.

Il giorno 25 settembre 2009, la galerie davide gallo ha il piacere di presentare il primo solo show dell'artista indiano Basist Kumar.
Nato a Delhi nel 1985 e attualmente iscritto al master in Fine Art dell'università di Santiniketan.
Nella sua recente produzione, l'artista affronta il tema dell'individuo e della società in così dinamica espansione nell'india contemporanea. E' il fenomeno della megalopolozzazione ad interessarlo.
Partendo dalla personale esperienza di come lo spazio, l'architettura possa essere percepita e visitata, utilizzando il dato visivo come strumento indagativo e cognitivo dello spazio, Basist Kumar passa poi ad analizzare la condizione dell'uomo contemporaneo che in questo nuovo spazio, le megalopoli, è costretto suo malgrado a sopravvivere. L'individuo di Basist Kumar è sempre da solo... non è nell'unione con la collettività che egli trova la forza ma in se stesso, nel suo personale rapporto con la megalopoli. L'individuo da questo incontro-scontro ne esce vincitore, un gigante capace di affrontare ancora una volta la geografia, di riplasmare l'ambiente metropolitano così come un tempo plasmò e dominò l'ambiente naturale.
Dopo che nella precedente produzione l'artista aveva raccontato e celebrato le singole identità di uomini famosi del nostro tempo, eroi dei media quali il ballerino 'Nijinsky' o 'Ravi Shankar', dopo che la mitologia della sua cultura nazionale aveva ispirato le tele del ciclo degli 'Untitled', adesso è l'uomo metropolitano, l'individuo ad essere celebrato. É l'individuo che attraverso questo rapporto acquisisce la dimensione di nuovo eroe.
Ciò che anche colpisce un questa ultima produzione di Basist Kumar è la capacità che l'artista ha di saper costruire una superfice pittorica in cui l'immagine scorre in modo fluido e dinamico.
L'immagine non presenta alcuna ambiguità, il suo contenuto si manifesta subito, la lettura è immediata; la percezione dell'opera è volutamente sintetica.
Da un punto di vista stilistico, l'artista oltre a guardare alla produzione dei grandi maestri della scena contemporanea indiana, riscopre la lingua dei 'padri' della prima avanguardia europea.
Il surrealismo, ma soprattutto la metafisica italiana contribuiscono all'architettura di queste opere.
Gli spazi assoluti, l'uso dei simboli (mai esagerato), danno a questi quadri un qualcosa di ambiguo, un certo enigma che è, da sempre, la quintessenza delle opere d'arte.

On 25 September 2009 galerie davide gallo has the pleasure to present the first solo show of the Indian artist Basist Kumar, born in Delhi in 1984 and currently studying at the university of Santiniketan.
In his latest production, the artist faces the theme of the individual and the society growing in such a dynamic expansion as in contemporary India. The megalopolization is the phenomenon which is interesting him.
Starting from the personal experience of how space and architecture can be seen and visited, using the visual data as a investigative and cognitive tool, Basit Kumar goes on to analyze the condition of contemporary man in this new space, the megalopolis, where the human being is forced to survive. The individual of Basist Kumar is always alone ... he finds his strength not in the union with the community but in himself, in his personal relationship with the megalopolis. In this clash the individual emerges as the winner, a giant capable of tackling once again the geography, to reshape the metropolitan environment as well as he once dominated and shaped the natural environment.
In his previous works, Basist Kumar told and celebrated the individual identities of famous men of our time, heroes of the media as the dancer "Nijinsky" or "Ravi Shankar". The myth of his national culture had inspired the paintings of his cycle "Untitled". Now it is the metropolitan man, the individual in contact with the megalopolis, the one who is celebrated ...a individual that through the relationship with the city captures the size of a new hero.
What also impresses of this latest production of Basist Kumar is the capacity of the artist to compose a painting surface where the image flows smoothly and well.
The image presents indeed no ambiguity, its content is seen immediately, the reading is instantaneous, the perception of the work deliberately concise.
From a stylistic point of view, the artist besides watching the production of the great masters of Indian contemporary scene, discovers the language of the "fathers" of the first European avant-garde.
Surrealism, but especially the Italian Metaphysical contribute to the architecture of these works.
The absolute space, the use of symbols (never too much), give these paintings something ambiguous, a conundrum that has always been the quintessential of an artwork.
